چکیده
BACKGROUND Cicatricial entropion is a common eyelid condition encountered by ophthalmologists. There is a variety of procedures to correct this condition, in which tarsal fracture procedure is one of them. However, recurrence has been a problem and success rate should be calculated. MATERIAL AND METHOD This retrospective non-comparative interventional case series on patients with cicatricial entropion corrected by tarsal fracture technique was conducted at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital between 2003 and 2007. The success rate was evaluated. RESULTS Most patients were female (81%) with the mean age of 62.2 (SD 20.1) years old. The success rate of tarsal fracture was 74.2%. After the reoperations of the recurrent cases, the success rate reached up to 87.1%. CONCLUSION Tarsal fracture is a simple, quickly-performed, and less time-consuming procedure. It should be considered as an initial operation for cicatricial entropion.

Pathology and Treatment of Non-cicatricial Entropion by the Method Proposed by Wies.
ACCORDING to Kettesy (1948), non-cicatricial or senile entropion is the direct result of a migration and accumulation of orbicularis fibres at the lid margin. The contraction of the orbicularis which follows causes excessive pressure on the upper margin of the eyelid, the mechanics of the lid musculature are altered, and entropion results. As stated by Kettesy (1948): "The normal distribution o...
متن کاملWies procedure combined with anterior lamellar recession in the management of cicatricial entropion of the upper eyelid
Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of the Wies procedure combined with anterior lamellar recession in the management of cicatricial entropion of the upper eyelid. Patients and methods: Nineteen patients (24 upper lids) with severe cicatricial entropion, trichiasis, and tarsal shortening were included in this study. Previous Snellen’s operation was recorded in 6 patients (8 eyelids). All cases un...

OBJECTIVES To evaluate the clinical findings and outcomes of surgical treatment in patients with marginal entropion. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients with impairment of the natural square-shaped eyelid margin morphology, anterior migration of mucocutaneous junction and mild lid inversion toward the ocular surface were diagnosed as having marginal entropion. Patients with shortened fornices, cic...
متن کاملLower eyelid lengthening surgery targeting the posterior layer of the lower eyelid retractors via a transcutaneous approach
The lower eyelid retractors consist of double layers, the posterior layer of which is the main tractional component. Therefore, shortening of the posterior layer of the lower eyelid retractors causes lower eyelid retraction or cicatricial entropion. Based on this concept, we report a modified lower eyelid lengthening surgery involving complete recession of the posterior layer of the lower eyeli...
